Sunmbo Adeoye, wife of Pastor David Adeoye and mother of two children with legendary singer 2face Idibia , has candidly spoken about her past, personal struggles, and the faith that guided her through difficult seasons.
In an interview with Morayo Afolabi Brown on The Morayo Afolabi Show, Sunmbo reflected on her relationship with 2Baba and how she overcame public scrutiny and personal pain.
According to her, a pivotal lesson from that period was understanding that a single mistake does not define an entire life.
“That season taught me that God has a plan for everyone, but I saw that I chose not to equate a bad decision with a bad life,” she said. “When you understand purpose, your pain will have a meaning.”
Sunmbo explained that embracing her purpose helped her navigate criticism and judgment, especially as she rebuilt her life.
She revealed that when she met her husband, Pastor David Adeoye, she was intentional about not over-explaining her past.
“Just resist the news to shalaye. My husband was not on a rescue mission, and I wasn’t trying to prove a point,” she stated.
Describing her marriage as divinely orchestrated, she added;
“My husband was my divine compensation, orchestrated by God. It is the grace of God that allows it to outlast the gossip.”
She further emphasized her complete reliance on faith during that transitional period of her life.
“If you ask me, Sunmbo, what precisely did to you, I surrender. I threw away the Google Map and said, ‘God, just navigate my journey the way you want it to be.’”
Addressing the backlash she faced, Sunmbo admitted that the criticism extended beyond social circles and into the church community.
“People left the church, and it hurt,” she said.
Despite the pain, Sunmbo maintained that her journey ultimately strengthened her faith and clarified her purpose, reinforcing her belief that grace can sustain anyone through public scrutiny and personal trials.
