Nigeria’s Samson Adamu has been appointed as the acting general secretary of Confédération Africaine de Football.
The announcement was made on Sunday by CAF President Patrice Motsepe during a press briefing in Cairo, following a meeting with the organisation’s top officials.
Adamu steps into the role on an interim basis, taking over from Veron Mosengo-Omba, who is retiring after serving since March 2021.
Mosengo-Omba, 66, had faced criticism for remaining in office beyond CAF’s stipulated retirement age of 63. He was also the subject of workplace-related allegations by some staff members, who accused him of fostering an unhealthy environment. However, an internal probe into the complaints found no evidence of misconduct.
Reacting to the development, the Nigeria Football Federation congratulated Adamu in a post shared on X, celebrating his elevation to the continental football body’s top administrative role.
