NASTY C, the 21-year-old rapper who is also aptly known as The Coolest Kid in Africa has released TODAY his highly anticipated sophomore effort, Strings And Bling. The album landed at #1 spot on ITUNES and #2 on Apple Music. #StringsAndBling is also trending #1 on Twitter.
The seventeen track project, finds Nasty C rapping about his real life over production by the likes of American producers, Blu Magiq and Cxdy as well as Africa’s own Gemini Major, Tweezy, Gobbla, and up-and-coming trailblazer, Nani. Guest appearances include A$AP Ferg, Ivyson Entertainment recording artist Rowlene and Kaien Cruz.
There is skillful storytelling on ‘Blisters’, where Nasty C incorporates pockets of Zulu to compliment a compelling narrative that includes a conversation with God. On ‘SMA (Send Me Away),’ Rowlene, makes an appearance in an intense ditty about infidelity. Here, Nasty C reverses roles and lays bare the vulnerability of young love.
‘You Played Yourself’ showcases Nasty C’s knack for switching up flows and reinforces one message: always be yourself.
“Strings refers to the string instruments on the album but it also refers to the idea of a string of connections,” Nasty C comments. “There’s a connection to the first person I call when I get into trouble. A connection to the person I speak to when I’m low, the spirit – that’s my mother. There’s a connection to friends.”
“Bling is meant in the literal sense,” he continues. “But it also means to shine and be out there. It’s about being confident like how I say: ‘I was talking to God like I was talking to my bro/He said I gave you what you need to release your inner glow.’” Nasty C’s time to shine is now.
