CAF has confirmed Moroccan referee Jalal Jiyed as the man in charge of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations third-place playoff between Nigeria’s Super Eagles and Egypt’s Pharaohs.
The fixture will be played at the Mohammed V Stadium in Casablanca, with kick-off fixed for 5 pm WAT. Both teams will be hoping to bow out of the tournament on a positive note after failing to reach the final.
Jiyed will be assisted by Zakaria Brinsi, Akarkad Mostafa and Hassani Khalil, while Peter Waweru Kamaku has been appointed fourth official. VAR responsibilities will be handled by Algerian referee Lahlu Benbraham, with Haythem Guirat and Hamza El Fariq providing support. Sinko Zeli will act as referee assessor for the match.
Nigeria head into the playoff following a painful semi-final exit against host nation Morocco, where the Super Eagles lost on penalties after a tightly contested game. Egypt also fell at the last-four stage, narrowly losing 1-0 to defending champions Senegal.
Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle has spoken of the importance of finishing the competition with pride and confidence, while Egypt manager Hossam Hassan is targeting a third-place finish as a boost for his team after their semi-final disappointment.
