Manchester United have cancelled their traditional end of season awards dinner in the wake of their calamitous campaign
The Red Devils have significantly struggled this term under Erik ten Hag, who has seen his stock plummet in recent months after a strong maiden year at the helm, and the beleaguered Dutchman could even miss out on Europe altogether with United currently eighth in the Premier League table.
It has now been decided by the club, following talks between Ten Hag and Sir Jim Ratcliffe ‘s football leadership team, that their annual end of season awards dinner will not take place later this month.
According to The Athletic, the decision was taken to ensure there are no distractions for Ten Hag or his squad ahead of the FA Cup final with Manchester City, which takes place later this month – just days after the date the dinner was planned for.
The report goes on to note that players will still receive awards which will be voted on by their team-mates, coaches and fans, but the dinner and corresponding ceremony will not take place.
