Controversial singer Speed Darlington has broken his silence after being declared wanted by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP),
The agency recently named him a wanted person over allegations of rape, cyberbullying, and cyberstalking. The move followed a viral video where the singer admitted to having slept with a 15-year-old girl.
In a video posted on Instagram on Monday, Speed Darlington defiantly stated that he would not honour NAPTIP’s invitation, insisting he had done nothing wrong.
He challenged the agency to present evidence of the alleged crimes and threatened legal action for defamation.
“NAPTIP, pay attention. That ‘wanted’ post, take it down. I’m not coming. I’ve committed no crime. Irresponsible talk is not a crime. Where’s your evidence? Who filed a complaint?” he said.
He accused the agency of trying to use him for publicity:
“Una wan use me trend. ‘Oh look, we invited a celebrity and he came.’ I charge N2.5 million per appearance. So, unless you’re paying me plus round-trip tickets for me and my PA, don’t expect me.”
The singer maintained that his comments were made simply to trend online and were not an admission of a real act.
“You people are reacting because you were tagged. Now you want to look good in front of Nigerians. But where is the cyberstalking? Who did I stalk or mention?”
He further questioned the allegations of rape, bluntly saying:
“I knack 15-year-old girl, na crime? Where is the evidence? Remove my name from that list. I will sue you for defamation. You’re trying to destroy my name without proof.”
NAPTIP has yet to respond to his latest outburst.
