Grace Makun raises concerns over new children’s party pack trend

Birthday party packs used to be one of the most exciting parts of children’s celebrations at least that’s how many people remember it.

But Nigerian entrepreneur Grace Makun says what she’s seeing these days has her genuinely surprised.

The businesswoman, who is married to popular fashion designer Yomi Casual, recently shared her thoughts online about how much party packs for kids’ birthdays seem to have changed.
According to her, things used to be very different.

Back then, party packs usually came with small toys, fun treats, and sometimes even educational items the kind of things that would make children excited to open them.

But now? Grace says the contents look a lot more like grocery supplies than kids’ gifts.
Sharing her observation on social media, she wrote:

“Party packs are starting to look like a charity project. What happened to toys, educational resources, and simple treats? Now it’s indomie, bag of rice, sugar, Milo, Maggi, cereal.”

Clearly amused and confused at the same time, she jokingly wondered if she had missed an important memo about the new trend.

“What is going on? Someone should update me… I’ve been missing a lot on this Obasanjo internet lately. Is this the new trend? Did someone announce it and I just didn’t hear?” she added.
Her post quickly got people talking online.

Some agreed with her, saying party packs used to feel more fun and child-focused. Others argued that including food items might actually be more helpful for families, especially with the rising cost of living.

Either way, the conversation has opened up an interesting question:

Are party packs evolving because of changing priorities or is this simply the latest birthday party trend?
