Nollywood movie Behind The Scenes has emerged as the highest-grossing Nigerian film of 2025, raking in ₦512 million at the box office
The movie held advance screenings on December 10 and 11 before its nationwide cinema release on December 12. Its distributor, FilmOne Entertainment, announced the milestone on Monday via Instagram, hailing the feat as historic and acknowledging cinema audiences across Nigeria and Ghana for their support.
“And yet, another history has been made. Thank you, West Africa for showing up, filling cinemas, and carrying this story with love,” FilmOne wrote.
Beyond topping the box office for the year, the Funke Akindele-backed project has also set a speed record, becoming the quickest Nollywood film to surpass the ₦500 million mark.
“₦512M at the box office. Highest-grossing Nollywood film of 2025. Fastest Nollywood movie to hit ₦500M. Number one film of the weekend,” the distributor stated.
FilmOne attributed the strong performance to audience confidence in both the story and its creators, adding, “This is what belief looks like,” while confirming that the film is still showing in cinemas.
Behind The Scenes centres on the issue of black tax and stars Scarlet Gomez in the lead role. The cast also includes Funke Akindele, Iyabo Ojo, Destiny Etiko, Tobi Bakre, Uche Montana, Uzor Arukwe, Ini Dima-Okojie, Adebowale ‘Mr Macaroni’, Ibrahim Chatta, Kamo State, as well as reality TV personalities Handi and Wanni Danbaki, among others.
Earlier reports had revealed that the film crossed ₦200 million during its opening weekend, making it the first Nollywood title in 2025 to reach that figure. At the time, FilmOne described the outing as the biggest opening weekend of the year, noting that the movie also set multiple records for weekend admissions.
