Full List: Tyla wins best Afrobeat award at MTV VMA

The 2025 MTV Video Music Awards lit up the UBS Arena in New York on Sept. 7 with LL Cool J hosting, and it was a historic night for African music as Tyla won Best Afrobeats for her hit “PUSH 2 START.”

The South African star’s victory, beating out Burna Boy, Asake, Tems, Wizkid, and Rema, marked one of the show’s biggest highlights and further cemented her global rise.

She shared the spotlight with other major winners, as Lady Gaga was crowned Artist of the Year, ROSÉ and Bruno Mars took home Song of the Year for “APT.,” and Sabrina Carpenter earned Best Album for Short n’ Sweet.
