Ghanaian dancehall, Shatta Wale, is investigated after authorities seized his Lamborghini Urus as part of a joint operation between Ghana’s Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and the U.S. Department of Justice.
The operation, carried out in June 2025 at Shatta Wale’s Trassaco Valley Phase 1 residence in Accra, led to the confiscation of a 2019 Lamborghini Urus, which has been linked to proceeds from transnational financial crimes.
In a statement released by EOCO’s Acting Executive Director, Raymond Archer, the agency confirmed that the seizure was based on a 2023 request from the FBI and the U.S. Department of Justice. The Lamborghini is part of a broader asset recovery linked to Nana Kwabena Amuah, a Ghanaian currently serving an 86-month sentence in the U.S. for offenses including romance scams and business email compromise schemes.
Investigators traced the high-end vehicle to Shatta Wale, prompting a coordinated raid by EOCO’s Surveillance and Asset Recovery Unit (SARU). The operation was executed lawfully and without incident, with EOCO emphasizing that officers acted with professionalism and respect throughout.
Shatta Wale was reportedly home during the seizure and initially pleaded with officials to avoid publicizing the matter, citing the car’s symbolic value to his image. Despite initial hesitation, he eventually surrendered the keys, and the vehicle is now in EOCO’s custody, awaiting a formal Mutual Legal Assistance (MLA) request from U.S. authorities for repatriation.
EOCO also clarified that it is standard procedure for SARU operatives to be armed during such missions for safety reasons.
The agency disclosed that both Shatta Wale and a former senior officer of the National Signals Bureau (NSB) have been named as persons of interest in the ongoing probe. They are expected to be invited for questioning, and EOCO may share its findings with the FBI and the U.S. Department of Justice as part of their collaborative efforts against financial crimes.
