DC United striker, Christian Benteke has edged out soccer legends Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez to secure the 2024 Major League Soccer (MLS) Golden Boot Award.
Benteke’s impressive 23-goal season propelled him to the top, surpassing Messi and Suarez’s 20-goal tally. Other contenders, including LAFC’s Dénis Bouanga (20 goals) and Columbus Crew’s Cucho Hernández (19 goals), also finished behind the Belgian forward.
This achievement marks Benteke as the third DC United player to win the award, following in the footsteps of Dwayne De Rosario (2011) and Luciano Emilio (2007).
Since joining DC United, Benteke has accumulated an impressive record: 38 goals, 11 assists, 228 total shots, and 852 aerial duels in 68 MLS matches over two-and-a-half seasons.
