Reality TV star and billionaire heir, Kiddwaya, has sparked online controversy after appealing for public donations to assist victims of recent attacks in his home state, Benue.
The appeal, made through the Kiddwaya Foundation, called on Nigerians to contribute “₦500 or ₦500,000” to provide food, shelter, and support for displaced families.
In a statement shared via his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Kiddwaya wrote:
“Our brothers and sisters in Benue are suffering. Communities have been torn apart by violent attacks, leaving families displaced, hungry, and grieving.
This is not just a Benue crisis, it’s a Nigerian crisis… We are mobilizing resources, but we can’t do it alone. Whether it’s ₦500 or ₦500,000—every naira counts.

Let’s remind the world that Nigerians don’t abandon their own in times of need.”
He concluded the post with donation details under the Kiddwaya Foundation, encouraging followers to share and participate in the relief effort.
However, the call to action was met with sharp criticism. Many Nigerians took to social media to question why a public figure known for flaunting luxury should turn to the public for contributions.
One viral comment read:
“Kiddwaya, the same man who once dropped $30,000 on Whitemoney for making jollof rice, is now humbly asking you—the common man with 1.7GB and a cracked screen—to donate ₦500 to help Benue.”
Another user wrote:
“You can fly private jets, wear designer clothes and throw parties, but can’t donate to your state quietly without asking us to help fund it?”
Still, others defended him, praising the initiative and reminding critics that mobilizing collective support can make a bigger impact. Some also pointed to his foundation’s previous charitable efforts, including scholarship programs for Benue students.
Despite the backlash, Kiddwaya has not withdrawn the appeal, maintaining his message that “every effort matters” in helping those affected by the crisis.
