Jason Derulo, now 37, admits life hasn’t gone quite the way he imagined when it comes to love.
“Being single wasn’t part of the plan,” the global music star told Graham Bensinger, reflecting on how his perspective on relationships has shifted over the years.
“I always believed that one of my relationships would end up in marriage,” he said. But seeing friends and even strangers part ways in unexpected ways has made him rethink rushing into a lifelong commitment.
Derulo has witnessed breakups that left lasting impressions, moments that taught him to be cautious. “Reality is different,” he explained, showing that experience, not just hope, shapes how he approaches love today.
His own romantic history echoes this journey. He dated Jordin Sparks for several years before their split in 2014. More recently, he became a dad in 2021 with former partner Jena Frumes, though their relationship ended just months after the birth of their son.
Despite the setbacks, Derulo isn’t closing the door on the future. “I’m focused on understanding relationships more deeply and learning from the mistakes I’ve seen over time,” he said, taking a measured approach to love rather than rushing into it.
Even for a global superstar, the path to marriage and lasting love isn’t straightforward. But his candid reflections offer a reminder that personal growth and understanding often come before saying “I do.”
