Arsenal FC won’t be playing in Europe next season for the first time in 25 years, despite winning their last game by beating Brighton 2-0. The Gunners missed Europa League cut after Tottenham rallied to beat Leicester 4-2 and retained the 7th spot on the league. There was a flicker of hope that the North London club would make it when Tottenham trailed Leicester 1-2. But Tottenham turned on the heat on the FA Cup champions, with the introduction of substitutes Gareth Bale and Brazilian Lucas Moura. They went on to win the match as Leicester were condemned to Europa League, in 5th place, despite Chelsea losing away to Aston Villa, at Villa Park. Chelsea picked the last slot for Champions League, behind League champions, Manchester City, Manchester United and Liverpool. Under manager Mikel Arteta, Arsenal had a torrid season, marked by inconsistency and under par performance, in all competitions. They ended the league season, just like last year in 8th, with 61 points, just one behind Tottenham, in 7th with 62 points. This will be the first time Arsenal would miss UEFA or Europa action. They qualified for Europe in each of Arsene Wenger’s 22 years at the club.
